This edition of Rant-Reviews is all about the independent comics, at least independent in the sense that they aren't Marvel or DC--all of these are still about heroes, actually. Anyways, Irredeemable #26 impresses, Abyss #4 ends its arc nicely, and Halcyon #5 has a surprisingly disappointing ending.
Irredeemable #26
Basically an issue of the Plutonian gathering more crazy allies to assist with his jailbreak whilst going deeper and deeper into the prison. It's zany, and the cast of characters we meet are quite fun. Really, you ought to be reading this comic.
4 out of 5 stars.
Abyss: Family Issues #4
Writer of this series Kevin Rubio turns in another issue of good humor and interesting story, satisfactorily wrapping everything up with my only major complaint maybe being that things feel a bit rushed. Perhaps making this a five issue mini-series would have allowed things to breathe a bit better. Still good fun though.

Halcyon #5
Huh, talk about starting strong and ending with a bit of a whimper. I guess with the way the story was going an ending like the one it had was sort of inevitable, but it was just...anti-climatic. Plus, the way the character Sabre acted seemed so extreme compared to how he was in earlier issues. I won't spoil things, but I was just a bit let down. I still enjoyed this issue, and get the message it wanted to impart, but I guess I just expected a bit more after enjoying earlier issues so much more.
3 out of 5 stars.
